Paediatric First Aid
This Paediatric First Aid Course is a 12-hour 100% classroom based course that meets and exceeds the requirements of registering as a childminder or working in a childcare setting with EYFS, CSSIW and SureStart.
Subjects studied include, amongst others:
Unit 1
Roles and Responsibilities of the Paediatric First Aider.
Assessing an Emergency Situation Safely.
Basic Life Support (includes CPR and Recovery Position).
Serious Bleeding.
Choking.
Treating Minor Injuries.
Unit 2:
First Aid for fractures, strains and sprains.
Head and Spinal Injuries.
Injuries to ears, eyes, mouth and nose.
Recognising suspected: • Diabetic emergencies • Asthma attack • Allergic reaction • Meningitis • Febrile convulsions.
Temperature emergencies.
Burns and Shocks.
Poisoning.
Anaphylaxis.
On successful completion, the qualification awarded is valid for a three-year period and can be renewed by attending the course again. HSE recommends annual refreshers are undertaken to ensure skills and knowledge are maintained.
Also available as a blended course. Part of the training is delivered via an online module that can be completed at a time, place and pace that suits the learner before coming into the classroom for just one day to complete the course.
This course is also available as a regulated qualification.

All ProTraining first aid courses meet the UK and European Resuscitation Council Guidelines 2021 fulfilling all HSE requirements. ProTrainings Vocational Training Qualifications (VTQ) are fully recognised by the HSE as Trade Body Qualifications.
The content of this and all ProTraining courses has been independently certified as conforming to universally accepted Continuous Professional Development (CPD) guidelines and come with a Certified CPD Statement as well as a ProTrainings Certificate and for online courses an Evidence Based Learning statement.
